The D5500 is also an overall slightly smaller and lighter camera, and will be offered in three kit options: body-only for $899.95, with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II for $999.95, or with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR for $1,199.95. The only feature missing is GPS, which was built into the D5300 but is not present in its successor. A flat picture profile is added, and the 1080/60p video specification is identical to its predecessor. Improvements over the previous model include the addition of a touch screen, which is a fully articulated 3.2-inch 1.37M-dot affair, as in the D5300. It provides a 24.2MP DX-format sensor with no optical low pass filter.
Nikon has announced the D5500, an upper-entry-level DSLR that replaces the D5300.
